Online Q & A Classroom with DJM :)

To make the most of our online time together, I’m thinking that you fine students could answer each other’s questions and then I only need to come answer the more difficult ones that no one can answer. It’s a beautiful neat thing to watch students help other students soooo

Math 10s: There will be one final online classroom on Tuesday June 18 from 4pm to 10pm. It will be hosted by 3 students from Math10 Honours. You must behave, or else I’ll adjust your final mark :) The link is up on my facebook status update.

Math 11s: Wednesday June 19 classroom live from 8pm onwards. You can ask each other questions and see if a classmate can help you out. I will go on around 9pm. Session will end at 11pm.

**There should be no limit to the number of students who can go on so you shouldn’t have a problem logging on.

Ensure that your Java is up-to-date. Try using a different browser if your current one won’t work.

When you login please type your FIRST NAME and LAST NAME. I will kick out anyone I don’t know, seriously or I’ll just tease that person unceasingly.

To avoid my website crashing again, you’ll have to add me on facebook. Look for the link to the online classroom on my status update. Add me (lgyang@vsb.bc.ca). I am Little Yang :D

Happy Studying!

PreCalc 11 Flipped Classroom HW

Hi Everyone,

I hope you’re as excited as I am to try out something new with Math education! Your homework assignments for this chapter (Ch 8 Sequence & Series) will require that you watch a video of either Mr. Griffiths or myself teaching the lesson. The examples we go through will be available in a pdf file for you to follow along. Some students may prefer to write it all out on their own which is totally up to you.

This is what you’ll need to do:
1) Print out the notes (or not)
2) Watch the video and fill in the blanks & follow along (or create your own notes based on this)

If you’re not understanding something, then rewind that part and watch again. The goal of your homework assignments is to understand the theory taught in the lesson. Everyone learns at their own pace. Some students may understand the lesson after watching only once, some may need to rewind for some parts, some may need to watch the video a few times to fully understand what’s going on. It would be a good idea to pause the video before we show the solution to a question so that you can attempt to do it on your own.

In the classroom, we will work on workbook questions (and you’ll have your trusty notes to refer to). At the end of each class, to keep y’all accountable, I will be having a quiz to make sure people are doing their homework!

Ok I think that’s it for now. If you have any questions, feel free to comment on this post! :)

Thanks for voting!

Hi Everyone!

Just for fun, I’ve decided to enter a cartooning contest. It would be really great if you could support me by voting for my cartoon each week! The contest goes on for 10 weeks, where a new cartoon is released Mondays. Please vote for all of my cartoons daily, starting every Monday! :D You can actually vote once every 6 hours… the more the merrier! :D

Update: I did not advance to Round 8.

Here is the link: vote for Ms. Yang. You’ll need to login via facebook which unfortunately doesn’t work on mobile devices unless you create a cartoonstudio account. Feel free to share with your friends and family, and like me on facebook! :)

Much appreciated,
Ms. Yang

The first thing I’ll be asking y’all to do is to register on my website. Please follow the instructions once you click on “register”. This will allow you to make comments on any videos. More information on that later.

Anyway, that’s it for now!

To All Students:

Your marks have been updated.

As a reward for reading this, I will omit your lowest HW check or quiz from term 3. All you need to do is email me by Wednesday June 20, 2012 11:59PM at lgyang@vsb.bc.ca with your name, block and which item you would like omitted. Sorry, I cannot omit exams.

I will then finalize the marks and post your final FINAL marks on Thursday June 21, 2012.

For those of you who still have to write an exam on June 20, 2012, my office hours will be:
Monday June 18: 8:30am – 1:45pm.
Tuesday June 19: 8:30am – 10:00am; 12:00 pm – 4pm.
Wednesday June 20: 8:30am – 12pm.

Good luck!!

Panarchy Fling BONUS

Hi Everyone,

Thanks to everyone who rated Panarchy Fling.

If your name is not on the list, then either
1) you didn’t rate it
2) you didn’t leave your name in the format First name + Last name initial. Ie… Peter G
3) you included TOO MUCH information. Ie… Jonathan Smack, Windermere Secondary, Math 10, Ms. Yang, 1-4. You can correct this easily by just revising your review by deleting all the extra information. Just need your first name and last name initial. Don’t make any reference to Ms. Yang! LOL :p
4) you wrote something inappropriate :s

So, it’s not too late to earn bonus. My sister said she’d extend the free app until Friday May 11. I will update the list as students update me. All you need to do is fire me an email @ lgyang@vsb.bc.ca and let me know. I’ll double check the review and then add your name to the list.

Here is the list of students who will receive +2.

1-1 1-2 1-4 2-1 2-2 2-3 2-4

Hi Everyone!!

Thanks to everyone who filled out a survey for my sister’s gaming company. Her game Panarchy Fling has now been released in iTunes for FREE. Please download it  and rate it for 2 bonus marks! :)

When you rate it, just make sure you include your first name and last name initial. For example, Peter G.
DO NOT include your student number, block, teacher (me) or math :p

Have a fantastic weekend!

April 8, 2012

Happy Easter Everyone!

I hope you all are enjoying the long weekend especially with all the sunny weather we’ve been getting. It was REALLY difficult for me to sit down and mark these Math 11 exams with clear blue skies and sunny weather outside. I felt like they were taunting me. Alas, a promise is a promise. I said I’d get these done by Sunday and so here I am, letting you know that updated marks can be found on the “Marks” page :)

Bye for now! @_@

Term 2 Marks

Hi Everyone,

Don’t forget to check “marks” for your Term 2 mark. They’re basically done. It will only change if you were absent, or if I had made a mistake and you can prove it :)

Today is 3.14 or also known as Pi Day!! So, Happy Pi Day!! :)

For my grade 11′s who may be studying for our upcoming Math test on Tuesday March 27, here are the solutions to the Quadratic Equations word problems work sheet that I collected just before the break.

Enjoy the rest of your Spring Break! :)

Bonus Marks for Term 2

Now that I have your attention…

Just wanted to let you know that in order for you to get +2 bonus marks for term 2, you had to register with the following format: Firstname.Lastname.block. For example, if I’m Peter Griffin from block 1-3 then I would register with Peter.Griffin.1-3

A few of you registered with unrecognizable names or you forgot to include your block. I deleted your account if you didn’t follow the format I requested! Please re-register before the end of term (end of February).

Cheers,
Ms. Yang

A note from your teacher…

January 27, 2012

1) Remember there is block rotation on Monday. Order goes like this: 2-4, 2-3, 2-2, 2-1.
2) Math 11 Precalc: There is a Quadratics Function Test coming up February 7. Start prepping.
3) Last but not least… if your current TAVG mark is 59% or below, I will be sending an interim to your home. Since half the year is over, you are in danger of not passing and thus your parents/guardians need to know. All hope is not lost though… but you will need to make some changes in how you study/do math in order to succeed.
